System Administrator

Job Description

The System Administrator is responsible for maintaining and improving the school’s digital infrastructure, including the Gibbon platform, web server, databases, and internal network systems. This role requires technical expertise, clear communication, and a commitment to continuous learning in a dynamic educational environment.
Responsibilities
  • Administer and maintain the school’s Linux-based web and database servers.
  • Monitor system health, backups, and SSL certification renewals.
  • Manage user accounts, roles, and permissions within Gibbon.
  • Implement security measures including firewalls, fail2ban, and user access control.
  • Collaborate with administrators and teachers to streamline workflows through automation and data management.
  • Assist in documentation, reporting, and process improvement across IT systems.
Required Skills/Characteristics
  • Strong understanding of Linux server administration and web technologies (Apache, MySQL, PHP).
  • Experience with Gibbon or other open-source school management systems preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot complex issues with patience and precision.
  • Clear English communication skills—both written and verbal.
  • Commitment to professional growth and a willingness to learn independently.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across multilingual, multicultural teams.
